What is cryptography ?
Cryptography is a fascinating field that has been around for centuries and continues to evolve with new algorithms and technologies. Cryptography is the practice of securing communication from adversaries by converting plaintext into ciphertext using mathematical algorithms
What problems does cryptography solve ?
A secure system should provide several assurances such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data as well as authenticity and non-repudiation.
When used correctly, crypto helps to provide these assurances.
Cryptography can ensure the confidentiality and integrity of both data in transit as well as data at rest.
It can also authenticate senders and recipients to one another and protect against repudiation.
Features Of Cryptography
Confidentiality
Information can only be accessed by the person for whom it is intended and no other person except him can access it.
Integrity
Information cannot be modified in storage or transition between sender and intended receiver without any addition to information being detected.
Non-repudiation
The creator/sender of information cannot deny his intention to send information at later stage.
Authentication
The identities of sender and receiver are confirmed. As well as destination/origin of information is confirmed.
